Con el solsticio de verano, Galernia ha vuelto a renacer... desaparecida ya la nieve que la sepultaba por tanto tiempo, ha vuelto a emerger la isla perdida del Atlántico Norte.
Pero, no parece la misma ciudad que era antaño. ¿Qué pasa en la nueva Galernia?

With the Summer Solstice, Galernia is now rebirthing... disappearing the snow that buried it for long time, the lost North Atlantic island is just rising again.
But, it does not look the same city that it was in the past. What´s the matter with new Galernia?

La gran tormenta de nieve, hielo y oscuridad se abate sobre Galernia. Todo queda hundido, paralizado bajo un manto blanco ¿perpetuo?... Galernia y sus habitantes duermen quizás el sueño eterno.

The great storm of snow, ice and darkness avates on Galernia. Everything is sunk under a white mantle, perpetual?... Galernia and its inhabitants sleep perhaps the eternal dream.

El período festivo por excelencia, la Navidad en Galernia es el momento más importante del año, así desde la tarde del 24 de diciembre hasta la mañana del 27, la isla permanece casi por completo paralizada. Es el momento para el reecuentro espiritual  y, muy al contrario que en el resto de Occidente, Navidad y shopping no son palabras sinónimas. De hecho, no existe la tradición del regalo a excepción, claro, de los regalos que Santa Claus hace a los niños buenos.

The festive season for excelence, Christmas Time in Galernia is the most important moment around the year. So, from dec. 24 afternoon to 27 dec. morning, all the island stay stopped eventually.
It is the time for the spiritual reencounter and, in opposite to the rest of the Western World, Christmas and Shopping are not synonimous words. In fact,  there is not the tradition of giving presents... exception, of course, the gifts that Santa Claus give to the good kids.

The City

Galernia es una ciudad artificialmente creada a partir de los años 50 del pasado siglo.
El centro de la urbe se desarrolla en los 50 y 60 teniendo su epicentro en plaza Esperanto. El estilo arquitectónico se basa en grandes edificios de hormigón y piedra ocupando manzanas enteras con un aire entre funcionalista y neogótico monumental.
A partir de ese centro se desarrolló el resto de la ciudad en un estilo totalmente funcionalista-minimalista: grandes edificios de hormigón englobados en urbanizaciones abiertas a grandes praderas de césped contectadas entre sí por una potente red de tranporte público.

Galernia is a city  artificially built, created since the 50´s of the past century.
The downtown was developed in the 50´s and 60´s having its heart at Esperanto square. The architectonic style is based in a huge concrete and stone buildings ocupping wide areas in a style middle funcionalism middle monumental neogothic.
From this center the city was developed in a completly funcionalist-minimalist style: enormous concrete buildings concentrated in housing estates opened to huge lawn prairies and this housing states connected between them and the downtown thanks to a powerful public transport network.

La asistencia sanitaria no debe ser nunca un negocio. En Galernia, el Sistema Nacional de Salud (Salud Social)  es gratuito desde el nacimiento hasta la muerte... por supuesto.

The medical assistance must not be never a kind of bussiness. In Galernia, the National Health Service (Social Health) is enterely free from the birth to the death... of course.

Naïf Galernia? Yes, we are!

Un par de islas  perdidas en mitad del Atlántico Norte. Unas oscuras, lluviosas islas rodeadas por la niebla húmeda del océano. De repente, emergiendo de entre la penumbra las altas torres de hormigón y granito de nuestra capital. ¿Un mundo gótico?... quizás, ¿Un mundo triste?... nunca.
En Galernia, somos felices, si, FELICES... bueno, quizás esto suena muy, muy naïf... seguramente, pero es así.
Nosotros no queremos ninguna clase de competitividad, destrucción, loco consumismo, explotación del hombre por el hombre, ni sexual ni económicamente.
Sí, somos naïf, muy naïf... con un pequeño lado oscuro...


A pair of islands lost in the middle of the Northern Atlantic Ocean. Dark, rainy islands surronding by the Ocean humid mist. Suddenly, rising among the darkness the high concrete and grantite towers of our capital town. A gothic world... perhaps. A sad world?... not at all.
In Galernia, we are happy, yes, HAPPY... well, it sounds very, very naïf, surely, but it is so.
We do not want any kind of competition, destruction, crazy consumism, economic or sexual explotation.
Yes, we are naïf, very naïf... with an small dark side...

MetroGalernia tiene treinta estaciones que conectan el centro de la ciudad con los diferentes barrios satélites. El interior de cada estación ha sido diseñado por diferentes artistas conviertiendo el metropolitano galerniano en una verdadera galería de arte contemporáneo.

MetroGalernia consists of thirty stations connecting the city center to the different satellites quarters. The interior of each station has been designed by different artists becoming MetroGalernia in a truly underground contemporary art gallery.
